Your Festival Needs You!

Dereham Blues Festival takes place every July, during the second full weekend. Each year, more than 120 bands apply to play at the festival and about half of these will play at least once over the course of a long weekend, from Thursday to Sunday. That adds up to over 100 free entry performances that are hosted in local bars and cafes. Apart from the ticketed launch concert, all the gigs are free to enter and close to the centre of Dereham town, in walking distance of free car parks. It is a real feast for lovers of live blues music and brings much needed revenue into the overall town economy.

The 10th Dereham Blues Festival in twelve years was held this year from the 10th to the 14th July. With 23 venues, over 60 live bands – all free to see, a sell out opening concert and 17 community blues based workshops to choose from, the festival was the biggest and most attended festival to date. That was only possible because of the dedicated team who worked together beyond the call of voluntary duty. It has been immense fun but we are victims of our own success and we find we are now in great need of recruiting not only volunteers who can roll up their sleeves for on the day activities, but folk who can organise and deliver, be responsible and who love the festival. Small discrete teams will work on dedicated aspects of the festival so that the workload is kept to reasonable volunteer hours level whilst still delivering a festival of national repute. If you or anyone you know might fit that bill please do get in contact before the 16th September, when preparation for the 2025 festival should begin.

If we cannot get the required support we need, there is a very real possibility that there will not be another Blues festival to grace the streets of Dereham.
